Quick Merchandising TIPS:
- LOOK FOR brightly-colored fruit that is heavy for its size, with no wrinkles.
- DON'T dump mangos from cartons/boxes onto display: hand stack or use Farmer’s Best display-ready box. When rotating stock, use FIFO (first in/first out) strategy.
- KEEP AWAY from ethylene-producing items such as bananas, tomatoes etc. to avoid over-ripening, shrink.
- DISPLAY with other tropicals, labeled by variety so consumers know that green-skinned ones are also ripe. Ethnic customers are top key mango consumers, with Asians even buying unripe fruit to use in relishes etc.
- CROSS-MERCHANDISE with other tropicals, especially limes, and provide cutting instructions. Themed events (Cinco de Mango!) also build excitement and trial for mangos.
