| Squash Program

An exciting time is approaching for Farmer’s Best and its clients: squash season! Since December, Farmer’s Best has been working on preparing for the spring season, which begins with squash in late February. Farmer’s Best offers Italian, gray and yellow squash, all often referred to as summer squash. Read on to follow the journey of these squash at Farmer’s Best.

Greenhouses

Squash are planted in our protected greenhouses in Culiacán, on the west coast of Mexico. Below are photos of Italian squash sprouts before they move to the next leg of their journey.

Transportation

From the greenhouses, the squash sprouts take a 10-hour road trip in temperature controlled trucks from Farmer’s Best operations in Culiacán to our fields on the coast of Hermosillo. The squash sprouts are stacked very carefully in crates shown below and brought directly to our fields.

Planting

Once arriving in Hermosillo, the squash are planted in our fields to continue growing from late February to mid-June. Below are photos of our squash growing in our fields.

Distribution

Our squash are harvested starting in late February. We transport them to our packing houses where they are safely and efficiently sorted and cleaned ensuring they meet all necessary guidelines. Our fresh, delicious squash are then transported in temperature-controlled trucks directly to our warehouses where they are briefly kept in a temperature-controlled environment as they await pick up from our customers.  Below are photos of our produce boxes filled and ready to go on display for our customers.

We are very pleased with the quality of all our summer squash this year. The squash are expected to meet and exceed our quality standards and grow to a perfect size. To learn more about our squash offerings, visit our webpage here.
